As time advances with new technology, our older folks just don't seem to understand why we can’t just sit and write a letter ( not email or txt ), like they did when they were growing up. Call someone on the phone, not via chatting thru the screen of your computer, tablet, or phone, go visit them, now a days, it’s not as convenient for us to be able to.
We as the ‘new age generation’, go out and purchase these items for our mom’s for her birthday, maybe something for pop’s for his, and oh hey, maybe grammy or pepe, would like to be able to see pictures of their great grand kids, via a hand held device, not old time photos like they are use to.
So, we purchase these said devices... one hand held, desk top device at a time, deliver with great big smiles on our faces , because now we know that we can get in touch if need be with our love ones...
But now... here comes the “quality time” that we should take with them and teach them how to use these ... We drop them off, little advice on how to use, they can't understand the direction booklets, and are stuck with a device they don't know how to use...
This is where I come in... I’m not a genius by any stretch of the imagination, and no, I don’t know everything there is to know about these devices... but I can learn just like everyone else, and time, and patience I have...
I’m a Licensed Nursing Assistant by night, ( I work third shift at a nursing home), but by day am looking to help someone learn “how to” use these objects they have been handed , and left to figure out on their own...
I've been an android user, now a chromebook user, pc user, ( mother says I missed my calling, when it comes to technology, she always comes running to me when she buys something new... and sends her friends my way if need be. ( thanks momma)). I’m learning the inside outs of most gadgets when I can, but I know enough to at least get your loved ones up and running, and if anything they need help with comes up along the way... they can always give a call... on their devices... ( I can teach them how to do that even...).
Looking to serve the elders has been something I've been thinking of for sometime now, ( hence my mom coming to me for advice , before and after purchasing her devices), as well as many others, co workers, friends parents, friends that may just not understand how to do something with their phone or tablet.
They are a simple device to figure out, but icons and small print and different lighting on these may not be helpful for your loved ones to be able to see properly, or hearing issues, they my not know that there is an app that can help with that, if they would like to ‘hear their fav news paper being read to them’ instead of trying to read it.. or if they can’t seem to figure out how to send an email, txt, pic, other... I’m here to assist... if I am able...
